Went to a great Italian restaurant in Allston tonight called Carlo's. It's a little hole in the wall kind of place but the food is great and the atmosphere is that kind of fun Tuesday-night neighborhood Italian which is really great. It's down to earth, warm, and just nice (something that's hard to find in Harvard Square). My trip to Carlo's (the second in about a month) has again left me impressed not just with it but with Allston in general. There are a ton of cool places, Common Ground, Big City, Sunrise, and a few others that offer the kind of neighborhood pub feel that no place (don't even go the John Harvard's route) in Harvard Square offers. Allston feels like a real neighborhood and there are definitely alot more places to hang out and eat there than there are in Harvard Square. expand post »

Italian in Boston sucks.  The North End is a joke.  Outside of Il Cappricio (not really Boston) there's nothing and even Il Cappricio is only so good in light of the competition.

Until now.

Via Matta, downtown off the Commons.  Best Italian in Boston.  Octopus salad was great if you like that sort of thing and the spaghetti aglio olio was off the hizzy.

While it's not explicitly on topic, I feel like many of you will understand this food-related tragedy. As of Saturday, the original Iron Chef episodes disappear from the Food Network's lineup. I for one am thinking of starting a protest. expand post »

There's nothing like a good Sunday brunch after a late night Saturday, and there is no place as good as Kelly's.  The restaurant is in an old box car and serves up the best bacon and hashbrowns I've had to date.

Only problem is that it's a trip.  You need a car and a decent sense of direction (I've been about 10 times and still get lost).  But if you ever have the chance, try it out.

Capitalizing on Boston Restaurant Week, I went to Taranta, an Italian-Peruvian restaurant in the North End.  It was great.  It was one of the those meals where everything is done perfectly.  My fish was cooked just right, the spinach was just garlicky enough, the risotto perfectly salted.  I highly recommend Taranta for a romantic dinner (especially during Restaurant week...) expand post »
